mica-shift 'Pelican'

My mica-shift animal portraits are very difficult! You have to work very slowly and carefully with each movement of the tool. I use a small, wire triangular loop to remove thin strips and tiny sections of clay and then put the finished carving through the pasta machine a couple times, first one direction and then the opposite to stretch the design and smooth the surface. They are then baked, wet-sanded and waxed to a silky smoothness. I absolutely love the look of this style of clay work, the depth you can achieve and the various shadings are just so cool!

Measures approx. 3.5x5.75 inches (1/16th inch deep)

Ring Box - Mica Shift Polymer Clay

This little ring box is just under 1.5 inches tall. It is made of polymer clay with hand sculpted miniature roses and baby's breath. Each of the little tiny pink beads are also made individually of polymer clay. The lid as been made with a tiny hole into which a bail could be glued so the lid can be worn as a pendant on a chain.

Byzantine Cuff bangle

This is a mica shift technique that I have used to make this bangle. I wanted it to have a Byzantine era feel and therefore tried to give an "old" feel by adding a rust underneath the gold.It was fun to make!
No gloss,just sanded and buffed.

Paw Prints on your Heart

mica shift seems to capture the memory of shape

It seemed to be a perfect tecnique for this heart pendant

when a beloved pet leaves us for the "rainbow bridge"
they leave their paw prints on our hearts forever....

this design is in memory of my cat Rascal 1995-2009

Mica Shift ACEO - May Challenge for the PCAGOE

I have used one of my own stamps for this challenge. I sketched the design in my notebook a while ago and then had it made into a stamp. I love how 3D this has turned out!

Golden Oldie Ginkgo Leaf Brooch

My entry into the PCAGOE Mica Challenge. The right half , "The Golden" of the leaf is traditional mica shift technique, sanded until smooth. The left side , "The Oldie" is with the deep ridges of the stamp that have a patina applied that ran into the ridges. I love contrasts and here you have Golden and smooth combined with Patinated and deeply ridged.
