So a penguin, an owl and a chick walk into a bar...
Created for the PCAGOE April 2008 challenge, this is a set of three polymer clay covered plastic Easter eggs - a chick, which fits inside an owl, which fits inside a penguin. The penguin stands up on its feet; the chick is a shaker with glass beads inside. I usually work with canework, so this is quite a step outside the box for me!

Ukranian Inspired Egg
My inspiration with this egg is all the wonderful colored Ukranian easter eggs that I have seen. This is my take on this. It is made of cane slices on a wooden egg so it stands on its own.

Just Hatched
He hatched just in time for Easter.
This is my entry for the PCAGOE monthly challenge. The challenge called for a polymer clay covered egg.
This plastic egg was cut and then covered with slices from a handmade clay cane. The duck was handmade without the use of any molds.

Spring Peeping Egg
This is my entry for the PCAGOE April challenge and it was definitely a challenge! It is a wood egg covered with polymer clay that I colored with alcohol inks, then covered with translucent cane slices and then embellished with leaves, bluet flowers and the froggy. It is 3 1/4" tall. This will be an Easter basket present for my son because he loves frogs :)

Waldo the Egg Beastlie
This image is my entry for the monthly PCAGOE challenge!
This is Waldo, the beastlie with an egg for an endoskeleton. In this photo he's begging for a bit of cheese sandwich.
I have no skill for making intricate mosaic or canework-covered eggs, so for this challenge, I figured I'd go with what I do know how to do!

Patchwork Easter Egg
This is my entry in the PCAGOE March Challenge which is Polymer Clay Covered Egg.
It is my first covered egg.
I bought a paper mache egg to cover as I am too rough to try to cover a real egg shell.
This is a patchwork quilt made up of all my flower millefiori canework.

A colorful hatching
An egg for spring that is colorful on the inside instead of the traditional outside. With a new baby bird to match.

Bunnies Egg
This is my entry for the April Egg Contest for PCAGOE. It begins with a hand blown Goose egg. The bunneis are created in layers and then baked. Their ears entertwine at the top to create the loop for the egg to hang on the stand. Then the negative space in the shell is carved away with a high power drill. The end result is a lacey effect that looks delicate, but is really quite sturdy because the eggshell behind the clay remains intact. A really cool technique that just keeps expanding!

Paisley Egg
Evolution of the egg challenge. This was my 4th egg. At this point in the game I was still experimenting with an egg as a base shape. I ran out of organic eggs, but have a bazillion plastic eggs. I wasn't satisfied with the eggs I'd done so far, the color swirl first one was nice and a mile stone for me, but nothing fabulous. The cane covered egg was a lesson in sanding and polishing, the 3rd egg was just me copying something I had done previously on a broom. This one felt unique and developed. it may not be as elaborate as the 3rd egg, but thats ok. I saw a picture of something in polymer with paisleys, and dots and bubbles. I also got a set of "pearl and etch" tools from the Studio line of Sculpey (I think it was one of those products that I saw the paisleys but could not find the image again when I went to look). This egg is a neutral taupe color then coated in mica powders, and highlighted with polishing wax

The Goose That Layed a Golden Egg
Once upon a time there lived an old woman who had a number of hens, ducks, and geese. She used to send her little daughter to the meadow every day to take care of the ducks and geese.
But she had one goose that she never allowed with the others. This one had a little house and yard of its own. It was such a wonderful goose that the old woman was afraid of losing it.
Each day this goose laid a large golden egg. The woman could hardly wait for the new day to come, she was so eager to get the golden egg.
At last she said to herself, "I will kill the goose and get the gold all at once."
But when she had killed the goose she found that it was just like all the other geese.
In her haste to become rich, she had become poor.
This is actually a covered duck egg, but the story still works! I blew the egg, then covered it with a mixture of different tints of gold polymer clay, gold leaf, gold glitter, and glow in the dark and translucent polymer clays. Then I sanded, then sanded some more...........Then buffed for a high shine with no applied finish.

Stolen
This is my entry for the Polymer Clay Guild of Etsy's April Challenge. The theme for April is "Covered Eggs." I wanted my egg to look like I had stolen it from a nest, dropped it, and caused it to crack. I never do anything realistic so it was a fun challenge to try to get my egg as realistic as possible. Trying to get a real looking crack and not just a cut was the most challenging part. Since the plastic easter egg I covered came hinged I knew I wanted to keep the hinge and hide something inside. I just couldn't resist the temptation and I had to do a bird. I thought the copper would look good with the pale blue and then I remembered I had some vintage copper birdcage beads. I pried the cage open with my pliers and put three tiny beads of turquoise dyed jasper. I like to think the mama bird's eggs have been stolen and put in the bird cage.
You can see the making of this piece documented in this set of photos in my flickr photostream.
