Front door to our Brittany holiday home
Part of the gravelled driveway in front of our holiday gite in rural Brittany, France.
We had the driveway re-gravelled in 2007 when the new septic tank was installed and it looks much better as a result. Unfortunately this hasn't stopped the weeds and we still the pesky blighter's growing through the membrane - bi-annual spraying with Sodium Chlorate required!
Notice my DIY handy-work with the new side gate and entrance gates!

Playing on the beach near St Brieuc
Jack (aged 6) and Dexter the dog (aged 7) loved playing on the wide open beaches of Northern Brittany whilst holidaying at our vacaction holiday home.
Jack got much wetter than Dexter, charging in and out of the sea

Our holiday home swimming pool
A rare moment of peace in the swimming pool at our Brittany Holiday Gite - no kids in the pool !
Our two boys love playing in the pool ... looks like the peace is about to be shattered as Jack (aged 6) is in the background on the patio.
Behind the pool can be seen the open barn where we store the bikes and outdoor kids toys

Early morning frost in Brittany
Taken at 9am on a cold February morning in Brittany, this is the field directly opposite our Brittany vacation home, with the sun barely peeping up above the trees and the frost still lying on the ground

Rest and relax by the Fountain
Another photo of a quiet square in Pontivy, Brittany. The town was renamed 'Napoleonville' in 1804 in honour of Emperor Napoleon and many of the grid-iron roads and formal squares are as a result of his influence.

French children dancing in Josselin town centre
Quite by chance when we were walking around the centre of Josselin (Brittany, France) we saw a group of French school children aged maybe 3 or 4, dancing with their teachers.
Not quite sure what the occasion was (this was in early April) but they were all brightly dressed with outfits made out of plastic cups, bubble wrap, bottle-tops and plastic tray holders.
Delightful !

Narrow cobbled streets in Pontivy
Pontivy (one of the seats of the Dukes of Rohan) has some quite old parts like this cobbled street, and some parts that show Napoleon's influence with straight roads and a massive marching ground (now used for the weekly market).

Our children in traditional Breton (Brittany) dress
Our boys couldn't resist having their photo taken in traditional Breton dress when we visited Vannes on the South Brittany coast

Formal gardens between the Vannes city walls
In between the two sets of city walls in Vannes (southern Brittany) are these formal gardens. They're absolutely immaculate, the picture doesn't really do justice to how neat and tidy everything is!

Tranquil stretch of the Nantes/Brest canal
A quiet stretch of the canal that runs through Brittany from Nantes to Brest. This shot was taken near to Pontivy, about 15 miles away from our rural holiday cottage

Windmills in Brittany
At Gueltas just outside Noyal Pontivy (on the road to the napoleonic town of Pontivy) is a windfarm of 6 windmills.
Windfarms are springing up all over France as each commune 'does it's bit' for the environment

Sit out and dine or sun-bathe on the patio
New for 2006 at our Brittany Holiday Home is a large patio that's situated on the west side to catch the afternoon and evening sun.
Perfect for dining or just lounging about in the sun !

Our Brittany Gite - see www.giteinbrittany.com
This was I think the view of the Brittany house that sold it to us. It had everything we wanted, somewhere that with a bit of decorating could become our holiday home and Gite, and a "future project" to turn more of it into Gites.
Needless to say we fell in love with it and bought it in January 2004.
It's now our Brittany Holiday Gite and is available to rent all year round
