Hey you! Check out something about Empowerment International.

Empowerment International is an organization aiming to help street children.

It has been found that these kids can be helped best before they make the streets their residence. We, therefore, help the most at-risk and poor by ensuring their education and providing them financial and emotional assistance.

A working kid

Many of the kids have to work to sustain themselves and their family. Often, these children give up their education to earn a living. The cycle of poverty, therefore, continues throughout their lives.

A helping hand

Mother helping her son with an activity for their sponsor in our program.

We have found that one of the secrets to success is getting the parents to become active participants in their children's education. Not only does this shift the entire communities value of education but it gives them more confidence in other arenas as well.

A New Trend

Today if you walk through the barrio you will find children studying, often in their parents' presence and often with their assistance.

3 years ago this was not the case. We have been able to explain the value of education to over 70% of the families in the village we work. The families now realize that education is an investment in the future. This is something difficult to think about when food needs to be put on the table every day....which often means putting the kids to work in or out of the home.

A very good year!

Kayla is a special girl who used to run away to attend school. Her mother had her care taking her little siblings and the home and she was not able to attend school. A teacher told us about her and we entered her in our program. After much work with her family, her mother finally has found work she can do from home so her two girls can attend school.
