Slayer Necklace

"Into each generation, a slayer is born? One girl in all the world, a chosen one? One with the strength and skill to hunt the vampires...She is the slayer."

The July 2008 PCAGOE (polymer clay artists guild of etsy) monthly challenge is ?personal hero.? One of my heroes is Joss Whedon, and so I chose to create a piece that pays homage to his most famous character, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

This necklace has polymer clay beads stamped with the words ?into each generation? along with the tools every slayer needs ? a cross and a stake. The other beads are lucite, glass and wood, set off by shiny gold vintage seed beads. Top it off at 21 inches long with a handmade sterling silver clasp, and you have a one-of-a-kind treasure perfect for a die-hard Buffyverse fan such as myself.

To vote for your favorite entry and maybe win a fabulous polymer clay prize pack, visit pcagoe.com between July 1 and July 3!

July PCAGOE Challenge Entry- "Ocean Jewels"

My hero has always been my mom, who has been gone from this earth for 6 yrs. now but is still very much in my heart and mind. My thoughts were on my mom when I was creating this piece. It's all her favorite colors and she loved big and bold beads. She definitely would have loved to wear this piece.

our Soldiers give...until last year.
This cake topper was made for two heroes ....they both

Freedom Is Not Free

This is my entry for the Polymer Clay Artist Guild of Etsy July challenge, the theme of which is Personal Hero. My entry is titled Freedom Is Not Free, submited in memory of all the men and women throughout our country's history who fought and died so we could live free today; and in honor of the men and women who continue to fight to keep us free. While there are many people whom I admire, these men and women are true personal heroes. God Bless the U.S.A.!

suppliments bracelet

Currently my personal hero is a handful of suppliments I take. Im in the middle of a Chronic Fatigue episode, so I take B-12 multi for energy, and NAC/milk thistle for liver balance, my OTC allergy meds are included along with my pain reliever, and my Omeg 3 fatty acids.
All of the pill beads are labeled for what they do: no pain, dry, balance, energy, oil,
Ive also included love and believe, because I believe I will get better, and my family loves and supports me when Im in a CFS episode

a little combo if tongue-n-cheek and truth.

My entry into PCAGOE Monthly challenge

This is my entry into the PCAGOE monthly challenge, whose theme this month is something to represent our "personal hero or heroes". My personal heroes have always been strong and beautiful women. Like my Mother for instance, who raised 6 children on her own. She is a strong, beautiful, intelligent and very capable woman. So my entry was made to represent all women like that, whom I admire. The pendant is an image transfer on polymer clay, with handmade polymer clay swirly lentil beads and glass beads.

Jesusmyhero

My entry for the PCAGOE July Challenge
This is what Jesus did for me and you.
He gave His life so we may live. He is my
absolute Hero and He is why I am alive today.
I was a premature baby in the late 50's and almost died(2pounds 11oz. then I lost a pound) but
God kept me alive then in 1981 I accepted Him
into my heart. I thank God for His son given for us.
This as you can see is a set of nails and the crown of thorns
as a reminder of what Jesus did for me and you.

PCAGOE July Challenge Entry - Rainbow Pillow Bead Set

PCAGOE July Challenge entry. One of my personal heros is my grandmother. She encouraged me to reuse items, so that nothing was wasted. She also loved colorful things. I made this colorful bead set out of scraps of clay leftover from other projects. I think that my grandma would have liked these beads.

Wind Beneath My Wings by artsyclay

PCAGOE July 2008 Challenge: Personal Hero

?Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings??
--?Wind Beneath My Wings,? sung by Bette Midler (Grammy Awards Record of the Year & Song of the Year, 1990)

For me, the Wind Beneath My Wings - my hero - has always been my daddy, who passed away in 1995 at age 79. He was a wonderful person who lived a very inspiring life. He was an attorney, CPA and owner of Hertz Rent-A-Car franchises, a volunteer board member/chairperson for many local non-profit organizations, worked with the mayor to arrange special events for the service men at Chanute Air Force Base, was chairperson for the Governor?s Committee for Tourism (Illinois) for many years, and just one of his many recognitions was being named National Volunteer of the Year for the YMCA in the ?70s.

His legacy of kindness and desire to help people inspires me daily. I hold his memory within my heart and do my best to live as he did.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pendant is handmade of polymer clay - royal blue, hot pink, and white - measuring approximately 2" wide, with a silver plated bail. Heart and wings are accented with sparkly acrylic gloss.

My entry in the PCAGOE July Challenge

This months challenge was to depict my hero. While I couldnt really depict her My mother was my hero, champion, best friend and one of the strongest people I ever knew.
Altho she has been gone to heaven more than 12 years now I miss her dearly. She inspired my love of arts and crafts every day by just gushing over everything I ever madesaying "That's absolutely beautiful!" She said it every time! It got to be a joke after a while where I would mimic her as she was saying it.

I made this set with her in mind The faux granite background symbolizes her strength and tenacity, The purple Mokume gane because "Burple" (as she called it) was her favorite color, and the teardrop shapes are the tears I cry because I no longer have this beautiful person in my life.
I will never know if she would have liked it or not but I know what she would have said..."Thats absolutely Beautiful"
So are you Mom, So are you.

"Home is Where the Heart Is" earrings (pcagoe challenge)

Polymer Clay Guild of Etsy Challenge piece: Personal Hero.

My personal heroes are my parents, for one. They grew up under difficult circumstances, both financially and emotionally: dad in Chicago with an alcoholic father, mom in a very small, rural town near Peoria. They went through the depression. They raised three kids successfully and stayed married for these past 50 years.

Another of my personal heroes is President Jimmy Carter, the first president I was eligible to vote for. He brought Habitat for Humanity into the public eye, he and his wife even working on homes themselves.

Thus, the door with the key. When a person has a home, and loving people in the home, that's where their heart is.

Yellow Cymbidium Orchid Ring 02

One of my personal heros is my grandmother, Andree' Stansbury. She is an amazing person and an incredible artist! Andree' inspires me in so many ways personally and artistically... I admire her strength and courage - she has been battling skin cancer and has had several surgeries in the last two years, so many they cannot cut her anymore. Now she is trying experimental treatments and she is somehow staying positive! My grandmother inspired this orchid ring because a year ago when I made my first orchid flower, she requested that I make miniature pair for earrings. I tried but I could not make two that were the same. Since I only had one mini orchid, I turned it into a ring! I will keep trying to make a pair for her but until then... here's a ring inspired by my grandmother. The orchid is beautiful just like her!
