S A N B O N A S H I

The three tapered, prong shaped lines of bare skin on the neck of geiko and maiko for very special occasions are called Sanbonashi: Three Legs. Left unpainted, it has a very dramatic effect, as if you're stealing a glimpse of the bare skin of the neck through the veil of a geiko's makeup.

On Kikutsuru's first day as a geiko.

water drop candy canes

One more from my 4th of July shoot where I took a flag outside behind my garden plants and captured its refraction in waterdrops. The red and white bokeh is the actual flag in the background.

Seen in flickr - published in Nikon World Magazine

I got a big smile when the good folks at Nikon World Magazine contacted me and said that they saw my photo on flickr and wanted to publish it. Just came out in the summer edition so I had to brag. This photo was originally titled "Loch Ness Water Drop" and that orange and red bokeh in the background is a poppy, which you can also see refracted in the water drops. The green background is grass.

near and far EXPLORE

this is the road that I live on. Sometimes I feel It is so dead end, {even thought it is). But it's not the road specifically. It is the roadblocks expierienced in life, and it is somehthing we all feel at one time or another.
I have had a great time learning how to use a camera ,I have also had times where I wanted to cry my eyes out.
I am done crying! I can't controll the feelings of others, and I am done trying.
So here is a toast to a new horizon, one that is brightening as I type away (terrible typer BTW)
Also want to say thanks for your posts. I have enjoyed all the compliments, criticisisms, and tips on ways to improve my stream . Then theres all the B.S. that I could not live without.
My stream just past 100,000 viws over the weekend and today, it hit The107,649 views mark !
Thank you sooo much, and untill I up-load again, Dana

The words of tennesse gator, (hope you dont mind):
First a joke.
When a co-dependent dies, somebody else's life passes before their eyes.
Second.... an idea.
What someone else thinks of me is none of my business.

Charge!!!

Continuing the Quest -- for Identified Flying Objects

I spent some time sitting (kneeling, squatting, crouching -- Ouch! Those stiff joints) - in the flower bed. These Bee flies spent tantalizing fractions of seconds hovering there, in front of a flower, before thrusting their nectar collectar (proboscis) deep in. But catching them at that moment was difficult.
Sometimes they landed on the flower, but at others they hovered, with just the proboscis attached.
Even at 1/500th seconds and ISO 400 I couldn't achieve the clarity of even the bee -- www.flickr.com/photos/algo/457779442/

These are tiny blue Speedwell flowers, to give a sense of scale.

A bit clearer, I think, 'Charge!!!' On Black

Thanks Diane for identification as a BeeFly -- www.kendall-bioresearch.co.uk/beefly.htm
