Wine

Smooth and flowing :D

This is actually an older image, but thought some folk over on strobist may find the concept interesting in that the light painting has to be performed behind the glass. I know there's no off camera "flash" here, but the set up is none the less relevent. You can see how the light painting has been reflected at the edges of the glass to give good edge definition. I dfid actually cut out a hole underneith the glass and shine some light through the underneith to try to get rif of the reflection in the base. If Only I'd have had a copy of light science and magic when I shot this!

Driftwood on the Chesapeake

It's hard to believe that something as big as the Chesapeake Bay can have 1" waves. Don't be fooled, it's a sleeping Giant. When the hurricanes roll up the coast the destruction can break your heart.

Don't Follow the Crowd

The concept was to show what happens if you follow the crowd. The green glass was set in the background and represents the unique thinker.

Vatican Spiral Staircase B&W

Black & White Version of my popular Spiral Staircase picture. I almost like it better this way. The Staircase is in the Vatican Museum in Rome. It is actually a double helix. Designed in 1932 by Giuseppe Momo, the staircase is composed of two different spirals -- one to walk up to the exhibits, and one to leave the museum.

Song

My Song

"I touch God in my song
as the hill touches the far-away sea
with its waterfall.
The butterfly counts not months but moments,
and has time enough."

-Rabindranath Tagore

The pictures included in this set taken on my very first visit to the desert, a dream come true.

the one true oneonta falls

Like most people, I had always assumed that the falls at the end of Oneonta Gorge (past the log jam, just off the scenic highway) were officially called, of course, "Oneonta Falls." Imagine my surprise when I came across this page (that website, by the way, is wonderful for all waterfall adventurers) and discovered that there exists a proper Oneonta Falls and as well as a Middle and Lower Oneonta Falls (the lower falls located at the end of the log jammed gorge).

I set out last Friday on a mission to find the one true Oneonta Falls. Though the website linked above does a wonderful job providing directions, I overestimated the small size of the 'boot trail' that leads off to the side (on the route of up to Triple Falls). I ended up visiting Triple Falls first and then located the boot trail to Oneonta Falls on the way back down. It's a bit of a treacherous route but worth it to find this little gem of a falls (and it's a waterfall you can walk behind!)

Taken by my Zero Image pinhole camera, with an approximate two minute exposure.

Belugas

This small whale can be up to 5 metres (16 ft) long, larger than all but the largest dolphins but smaller than most other toothed whales. Males are generally larger than the female - males can weigh 1,360 kg (3,000 pounds) and females about 900 kg (one ton).

Newly-born belugas are about 1.5 m (5 ft) long and weigh 80 kilograms (176 pounds). This whale is unmistakable when adult: it is all white and has a dorsal ridge rather than a fin. The head is also unlike that of any other cetacean - its melon is extremely bulbous and even malleable. The beluga is able to change the shape of its head by blowing air around its sinuses. Again unlike many dolphins and whales, the vertebrae in the neck are not fused together, allowing the animal flexibility to turn its head laterally.

Dramatic sky over Ditchling Down

I think this sky is mostly from smeared vapour trails because they are all heading suspiciously towards distant Gatwick! I have played about a bit to make the whole thing rather more dramatic.

Hollywood Sin

Colors remind me of Sin City, hence part of the title. I must say I am very proud of how big my lips look in this picture haha. I have very small lips but the red lipstick made them look way bigger so hooray!

nemobubbles

This one is upside down.
I placed a vase 3/4 full of water inside a lastolite litecube
I then positioned a couple of SB800 Speedlights either side and an additonal SB600 for backlight. All speedlights were triggered using an SU800 wireless commander. The timing was a nightmare because I put my camera on self timer and had to try and drop the fish in at just the right moment. No assistant to help me on this one!
