Difficult life, the flood destroyed my cabages

Trip to Transylvania, Romania in june 2005, near Sovata this one
(wife of the man shaving)

Zoli's grandmother no 1 was there, and spoke with me a lot "she nevers speaks" told me after Zoli. To me she told a lot about her work, her health problems, her son's helping him (now, Zoli told, before he was a hippy). And how much everything costs, and how the flood just killed their cabbage. All of it. How big the water grow, etc.

Then, or between it, offered us "dry" : traditional peasant breackfast for that place. Bred, oignon and bacon. Also, "palinka" but we did not drink "I have to drive"

My father, who comes also from a small town, used to speak with nostalgy about such food, "peasent food" for my mother, and I did not think it was still in usage today and for breakfast !

Yes, told me Zoli, and when possible, eggs too.

Finally, not so far from "ham and eggs" !

Old garden worker, happy with his life

Met at 22 june in Cluj, Romania (no teeth)

I went to a trip in my hometown where I did not go for forty years and went inside some gardens in the center of town to take the photo of old "courts". I met him there and was fascinated by his interesting face. He was gardening, and accepted to be photographed. I told him, in hungarian, I was born in the same town and promised to come back and give him a photo.

This is the one I gave him, when I met him a few days later. I just came from the market.. He was going to other cleaning job.

I told him, your smile is always so happy, even as...

What even? of course, he told me, not thinking that having to clean still to live at his age, could bother him in any way.

So, whenever I look at his face I remember and appreciate also what I have and do at my age!

My set "strangers... no more" with for now 80 pictures, can be found at

Zoli's grandfather

One of Zoli's grandfather we visited going from Sovata to Cluj, when I have taken him and Irina to town with me. They had exams in Cluj but lived in Sovata, together, at her parents house. Nor his father, nor his mother (divorced) are helping him to finish his studies. And the grand-parents, complained, they raised him, while small child, and now, he is no more there to help with the work.

Do not take me!

No, you cannt take me, I am not at cirque!

But I already took it, absolutely taken by the hat and the moustache of the old man in the small town. And I have also a picture of him in context. However, he was the only one who wanted to beat me up, to show me "he is not at a circ" and some other people around there helped me, speaking with him while I took the photo without his knowledge.

Petru, towards end of our discussion

www.flickr.com/photos/joyoflife/sets/1117580/

Strangers no more group set, has people I met and talked a bit more, hours, minutes, but whom I spoke too about me also. We really communicated, Walking away, we were no more stranger to each other.
=======
Didn't he change a lot as expression from the begining towards end of our conversation (almost an hour perhaps)

In the parc of my childhood, in Cluj, Romania, during my visit there, I have set down on a bench where he was, an unknown man to me, and made four consecutive photos of him that tells the tale. We spoke rumanian.

After the hour, he went home to luch and I continued my tour of my birth city where I did not go back for almost forty years.

The dentiste

In only four days, and fraction of price from France, he put me four porcelan teeth, I needed for my smile. He was a stranger four days before from me, but my cousin knew him already He told me they went to Italy after the communist regime crumbled, but his wife could not get used to it, so they came back.

That was before I promised to send him the photo, which I did later.
"My name is Gabor Gabor" he told me in hungarian.
I loved how he looked with outfit and hat and moustache.
But with a hat, it's difficult to get the eyes well.
