memories of Sopot
Sopot is located in the North of Poland. It has wonderful hotels, beaches, pubs, restaurants and forests. Sopot is one of the best spots for summer holidays in Europe. Sopot is one of the smallest but one of the most beautiful Polish towns. A big forest surrounds Sopot to the west and Gdansk Gulf to the east. It takes about four hours from Polish capital Warsaw by train to Sopot. During summer there are more visitors than citizens from all parts of Europe. Do not look for other place to make hotel reservation in Poland.

memories of Sopot
Sopot was founded as a Slavonic (Pomeranian) stronghold in the 7th century. Initially it was a commercial trade outpost for commerce extending both up the Vistula river and to cities across the Baltic Sea. With time the significance of the stronghold diminished and by the 10th century it was reduced to a fishing village, with the village itself eventually abondoned. However, a century later the area was settled again and two villages were founded within the confines of today's' city: Stawowie and Gr?zowo. They were first mentioned in 1186 as being granted to the Cistercian abbey in Oliwa. Another of the villages that constitute today's Sopot, ?wiemirowo, was first mentioned in 1212 in a document by M?ciwj I, Duke of Gda?sk, who granted it to the Norbertan monastery in nearby ?ukowo.
The Sopot village, which later became the namesake for the whole city, was first mentioned in 1283 when it was located as a fishing village and granted to the Cistercians. By 1316 the abbey bought all villages in the area and became the owners of all the area of the city. After the Toru? Peace Treaty of 1466 the area was incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland.
