soldier

This is a sculpture at the top of a monument in Uptown that was placed by the Daughters of the Confederacy in the early 1900s. I don't condone the message but was struck by the silhouette.

Shelby mural

This is on the side of a building in Uptown - a good representation of what Shelby's known for and proud of.

tree shadow

The shadow caught my eye - I love how Uptown is full of trees, and this one was casting a shadow as the sun slowly sank in the sky.

house

A good representation of some of the Southern beauties that you can find on Washington St, near City Hall. Note the magnolia tree!

gargoyle

Who knew that a Baptist church might have gargolyles! I was surprised and pleased.

masons

I wish I could have captured this building in its full Masonic glory. The entrance looks like a small Egyptian temple, and the colours of the glass are more striking, too. I always park here when I can, because I like the building.

antiques

I liked the whole look of this window, especially in this light - very much an appropriate feel!

train tracks disappear

I have a fascination with train tracks, and one day I'll have to follow these and see what's revealed. These are leading from the mill area of Uptown, not far from the Farmer's Market building.

church tower

This is the tower of the First Baptist Church on Lafayette St. The bells that play from this tower are very pleasant - I heard them while I was walking around and taking this series of photos and was charmed.
