Peanut Treats and Allergies

Slideshow by Shinga

Peanut allergy is increasingly common among children and is leading to bitter disputes in schools as parents ask for nut-free environments and others assert their children's right to PBJ sandwiches, irrespective of others' needs. I'm chosen some peanut images to illustrate what young children are expected to resist although this ignores the hidden use of peanuts.

Spring Has Sprung

I finally picked up some allergy medication... I've been coughing again which must mean things are blooming... I take a Claritin this morning and things are getting better.

The carpool schedule is a weird thing... inevitably I end up being one of the early folks arriving and one of the late folks leaving on Fridays. It's worth it, though, to be able to share a ride home and use carpool lanes. =)

No big plans this weekend, to my knowledge. Again I feel like I'm behind on my sleep... hopefully we can sleep in extra late this weekend!

Lizzie has festooned her peanut butter sandwich with little studs of Kix cereal. We would prefer not to stock Kix ceral, but Lizzie likes the spherical form factor, and it is not 100% sugar.

So I finally got out of the habit of simply leaving the fork & spoon in their place... and allowing myself to pack extra goodies in their compartment (wether I eat them or not!) And today was a day I should have forseen the need for the spoon [see: banana mix/mess]. Praise God I have a random actual spoon at my desk from being sick and needing honey in my tea!

Springtime allergy party pack

Last year for the birch pollen I just needed an over the counter antihistamine.

The years before that I wasn't allergic to anything.

Ah, finland, what are you doing to me?!

The doctor, while printing out page after page of prescriptions, said "this should tide you over.... until hay fever season starts. Then we'll find out if you're allergic to that too!"

Then he started laughing.

Hoho.

Allergies...

Just playing around, one day over spring break - but I like the colors...the green pills and the orange container.

This is just another one of those pictures that are completely random - and I must admit that I am HUNGRY to go SOMEWHERE and take some great photos!! You can only take so many pictures at your own home, or in your own town! So this is pretty much the result of that "urge" to take new and interesting photos!

Pseudoephedrine

Anyone who's seen me within the last couple of days knows that I've been feeling miserable, with my horrendously stuffy nose and crazy coughing. I finally ran to the pharmacy this morning and bought a bag of cough drops, and a box of store-brand Pseudoephedrine (better known to some of us as Claritin-D or Sudafed)...but I don't really need it anymore. It's quite all right, though--the symptoms will kick in again before its expiration date (May 2008), I'm sure.

And no, there's no real reason why I had the box pose on top of my Calculus book.

Magical Drugs

Last year the doc gave me some Zyrtec samples, for my seasonal allergies. But it was just a tease. They worked swimmingly, but my stoopid health insurance won't let me have an actual prescription. Now that my allergies are acting up again, I find myself looking longingly at this photo. Sigh.

Flushing the honker

You haven't lived till you have flushed your nostrils by sticking a syringe of sodium bicarbonate water up one nostril, holding your breath, and pumping the stinging liquid out the other nostril.

Three times each nostril. Three times a day. Fun and laughter for all.

Though I must add, nothing clears the nose of allergy-induced mucus faster than this method.

Please hor, not to be attempted without doctor's instructions, ok?
